Letter from Africa: Remembering South Africa's Ahmed Kathrada

This previous week in Johannesburg there was a memorial service I wished I had possessed the capacity to go to.

Ahmed Kathrada, surely understood African National Congress (ANC) extremist and South African statesman, was let go. The merited tributes to the man, tenderly known as Kathy, who passed on at 87 years old have been conveyed.

I would essentially have gotten a kick out of the chance to be there to be a piece of an occasion that would check the conclusion for an adventure that began for me on 15 October 1989 in the Soweto township. Read more:-International Database

I was on my first revealing excursion to South Africa for the BBC and, subsequent to having been denied a visa for over two years, I was at last conceded one after the intercession of the redoubtable hostile to politically-sanctioned racial segregation dissident Helen Suzman.

As things turned out, it was the ideal time to have touched base in the nation.
